How to reduce an image to a specific file size
Forms and portals often ask for a photo under 100 KB or 200 KB. Three settings decide the size: the dimensions, the quality and the format.
1. Dimensions
Pixels count the most. A photo straight from a phone can be 4,000 pixels wide, far more than a form needs. Resizing to 1,200 pixels wide often removes most of the weight on its own.
2. Quality
JPG and WebP let you trade a little detail for a much smaller file. Moderate settings are hard to tell apart on screen.
3. Format
Use JPG or WebP for photos. PNG keeps every detail, so photos saved as PNG are large.
Do it in one step
Use compress to 100 KB, 50 KB or 200 KB. The tool searches for the best quality that fits and shrinks the width if it has to. Photos of documents need a higher target to stay readable.
